ATV racer Lifelined from 4-H fair Friday

An ATV racer from Spencer was listed in good condition Saturday evening at an Indianapolis hospital after a wreck during a race late Friday at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair track.

Tyler Roberts, 20, was taken by Lifeline helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital with unknown injuries after the accident, according to police.

Roberts' vehicle hit some loose dirt in the second turn and hit then struck a rut before it catapulted him off the vehicle and into the track's wooden fence, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department.

He was treated within moments at the scene by EMTs from Columbus Township Volunteer Fire Department and Trans-Care Ambulance. Both already were providing care on the fair grounds Friday, according to Maj. Todd Noblitt of the sheriff's department. The accident happened about 9 p.m., according to police.

Fair board president Larry Fisher said Midwest Motocross coordinated the event. A call placed to a phone number in Indiana under that name was not returned.
