11:40 a.m. update

The hardest hit area in Hope from last night's storm was the area along Union Street from Seminary Street to Washington Street in Hope. Houses in that area sustained varying damage.

Hope Hardwoods off of Seminary Street also sustained heavy damage. Part of its roof is blown off and part of the business had water damage inside.

Limbs and debris are scattered throughout the town. Bleachers at the ball diamond behind Hope Intermediate School were lifted up and blown down during the storm.

9:10 a.m. update

About 443 Duke Energy customers are without power in the Hope area this morning following last night's storms.

Chip Orben, district manager for Duke Energy Indiana, said the company has nine utility poles down, "lots of tree damage and wires down."

Most customers will have power restored by 11 a.m., but Orben said it will probably be midnight tonight before all customers are restored.

He said residents should always assume that if a wire is on the ground it is live, and they should not try to remove it.

Anyone who sees a downed power line or is without power is encouraged to report the outage by calling 1-800-343-3525.
