Last week you carried a letter to the editor in which the reader noted that Columbus is not a bike-friendly city. I would like to say that I disagree.
I am a regular cyclist and have spent over seven years biking to work here.
In those seven years I observed that the extreme majority of Columbus drivers are very friendly towards cyclists.
I regularly had motorists waving me through at four-way stops, even when they had the right of way.
In seven years, I have only had one person yell at me.
Once, I even had a mother in a minivan stop and offer to put my bike in her car and drive me home due to the heat. How nice is that?
I have had no problems with people cutting me off or other things such as those mentioned in last week’s letter.
I have always worked to share the road with cars just as cars have shared it with me. Courtesy brings courtesy.
I think Columbus is full of courteous drivers and a very bike-friendly place.
Show me another town where when two vehicles arrive at a four-way stop at the same time, they get into a “wave the other person through the stop sign” hand signaling argument!
Columbus is full of Hoosier hospitality and we are blessed to live here.
