Fairbanks ties for 3rd in stroke play at state junior
Christian Fairbanks of Columbus fired a 1-over-par 73 Tuesday to move into a tie for third place at 148 after the stroke play rounds of the Boys State Junior Championship at Purdue’s Kampen Course.
Michael VanDeventer tied for 16th at 153, Jake Coffey tied for 42nd at 158, and Tanner Bennett tied for 50th at 160. Match play begins today and continues through Friday.
Jennings Middle School soccer to start Monday
Jennings County Middle School co-ed soccer practice will begin from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Sandcreek Soccer Complex.
Hauser volleyball practices begin Monday
Hauser High School volleyball practice will begin at 8 a.m. Monday. Practices the first week will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Completed physicals are required before beginning practice.

Adult fall volleyball registration begins Monday
Registration for Columbus Parks and Recreation’s Adult Fall Volleyball League will be available from Monday through Aug. 24. Games will begin Sept. 10 at the Columbus Armory.
All officiated games will be on Tuesdays and are $195 per team. Recreational games will be Mondays or Thursdays and are $145 per team. Teams in each league will play seven matches, plus a single-elimination tournament.

Central girls tennis tryouts scheduled for Aug. 6-8
Central Middle School girls tennis tryouts will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6 to 8 at the Donner Tennis Courts. Players must have a completed physical form on file or bring one to the tryouts.
There will be a brief parent meeting at 5 p.m. Aug. 6.
Soccer referee orientation scheduled for Aug. 11
Individuals at least 14 years old interested in refereeing Columbus Parks and Recreation soccer must attend referee orientation from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at Foundation For Youth.

Summer fun runs for Northside Middle School students interested in running cross-country will conclude from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday at Mill Race Park. Completed physical forms will be needed before beginning practice Aug. 6.
