Ever since I was a middle school student, I’ve understood that college would be expensive.
As my 13-year-old friends and I took our first baby-sitting jobs, I remember sitting around talking about how we would spend the money we’d earn. New clothes. Text messaging. Movies. Everything from Bath & Body Works.
But my friend Megan had a different plan; she was going to start saving for college.
What? None of us had even thought that far ahead.
However, Megan was the oldest of four children, and she knew she couldn’t rely on her parents to pay her way into the prestigious colleges she’d been eying.
That was an eye-opener for me. I thought, “Wow, college really is expensive.” But, looking back, I wonder why I never questioned the large price tag.
That’s just the way it was. College was necessary. And it was going to cost a lot of money. The end.
But is college worth it?
